102: Sending a Message Through Music
10:15-11:15am
General Track 2
Ki Ngot-Ki Nish
Mtg Rooms 1&2
Join members of Waawiyeyaa as they perform select songs and reflect on their shared experience as a tribal progressive band. Bring your shakers and join in the fun!
Music is a medium that carries messages far beyond those who create it. We are still singing songs that our ancestors sang years ago.
Waawiyeyaa is a term Anishinaabe people use which means “the circle”. Our band is like a circle. We draw inspiration from our ancestors and the world around us to create our music, and then share our tribal progressive tunes and their messages with others so they can listen, enjoy, and learn. We hope our efforts honor the sacrifices of our ancestors and empower current and future generations. Our current band members include: Tom Biron (lead/rhythm guitar), Danny Garceau (Native American flute/percussion), Karen Moses (vocals/hand drum/shakers), Martin Reinhardt (vocals/songwriter/hand drum/shakers/rhythm guitar), and Jud Sojourn (lead guitar/vocals). Tina Moses serves as our band manager.
